High Priority Projects

These projects are open to all gardeners on a first-come-first serve basis. The projects are open until the areas are cleaned up and the list below will be updated as gardeners tackle the spaces. Please take before and after pictures to help@ucvillagegarden.net to receive credit for your work.
**NEW** VERY HIGH PRIORITY**

1. We are expecting a delivery of mulch on 11/29/2021 (our sincere thanks to Claudia Hall at the village office and the grounds staff for arranging this delivery!). The mulch will be available in a large container in the maintenance parking space right outside the south gate of the garden near the baseball field.  Community Area 5 and the area near the fig trees (see pictures below) have recently been cleared by some of our gardeners and need to be mulched so that we can keep the weeds in check for longer and not let their hard work go to waste. Many sections of our orchard and the main path are also overgrown and need a fresh layer of cardboard and mulch.

2. Our orchard was mulched and trees were pruned earlier this year but the blackberry bushes are once again taking over the space. We want to trim all the blackberry bushes in the garden and the other trees/bushes shown in the pictures below and other areas in the orchard.  The plants that need to be trimmed include blackberries, trees that were cut down to the stump but are growing back from the stump, horsetail, wild radishes and other common weeds you find around the garden. Fresh mulch needs to be added to any areas that need it.

If buying any hand tools (trimmers, shears etc) will help with this task, please place a purchase request and the purchases will be reimbursed by the village office as long as the purchasing protocol is followed.

Please take before/after pictures and send them to help@ucvillagegarden.net to log your work.

***NOTE : Some of our gardeners recently planted some young native plants (ceanothus) in the orchard close to the fire path. Please take care to not prune these*******
