Are tools available for gardeners?
Yes, hand tools such as shovels and rakes can be found in the locked tool shed at the south end of the garden. We also have garden shears and pruning tools available. To request a tool please fill out our tool request form.
What do I do with garden waste?
Green waste removed from plots (grass, weeds, etc) should be taken to either the compost pile located in the center of the garden or to the compost pile located in the north west corner of the garden. Please take all other waste and recycling to the appropriate containers located inside the garden beside the South Gate. If you are unsure about where to dispose of waste please contact the garden committee at help@ucvillagegarden.net.
What are work parties?
Work parties are communal garden work every UC Villager gardener must participate in to improve/maintain the garden.
(Garden Rule: Every year, I will participate in at least one work project per season (spring: March-May, summer: June-August, fall: September-November, winter: December-February). It is the responsibility of the Garden Committee to provide adequate opportunities for service through Garden Work Parties and/or Mini Work Parties. If I am unable to attend the work parties offered, I understand it is my responsibility to request an independent work project assignment from the Garden Committee in order to satisfy this requirement.)
What do I do if I can't attend a work party?
We have no problem with people making up for work parties in earlier or later seasons. We only expect that every plot holder participates in a minimum of 4 work parties. If you need to schedule an independent work project you need to be given an assignment in person. If multiple people request to meet with committee members to be assigned a project we will arrange a specific time to meet with us. Otherwise it is up to you to ask after an orientation, work party, or other garden event is held.
How much are fees and when are they due?
Fees are due February of each year, regardless of when you paid your initial fee. For residents, fees are $20 per plot per calendar year (2017). For non-residents, fees are $40 per plot per calendar year.
Who makes up the UC Village garden committee?
The garden committee is made up of volunteers. All community garden members are welcome to join the UC village garden committee.
How large are plots at the University Village Plots?
